Recommended Water Quality:
Temperature:
70-85 degrees Fahrenheit
Salt: 0.05% - 0.3% (and 0.3% - 0.6% for treatment or
quarantine)
pH: 6.5-8.5
Ammonia: 0 PPM,
Nitrite:
less than .25 PPM
Quarantine: for pre-introduction of new
livestock and treatment of sick fish.
1) Isolated tank (150-300 gallons should be ideal depending
on fish size)
2) Separate Filtration
3) Maintain Temperature at 72 to 78 degrees (Heater may
need to be added)
4) Keep Medications on hand
5) Lots of Oxygen (Additional air pumps could be added)
6) Limit Stress
7) Salt: 0.3% - 0.6% (unless using ProForm-C, under which treatment salt level must be under 0.1% due to
risk of burning fish with Formalin / Salt mixture).
8) Cover tank with a net to prevent newly acclimated fish
from jumping out.
9) Quarantine all new fish and plants.
FIND OUT WHICH MEDS ARE
RIGHT FOR YOUR SICK KOI
Bacteria: The
seasonal addition of bacteria is a MUST to maintain a biological
ecosystem. The quality of these products varies, but we suggest
Ultimate. Bacteria is especially important for Spring start-up when
your koi are at their weakest state.
KoiZyme, also should be added weekly as a preventive treatment of Aeromonas, Pseudomonas or any gram negative or gram positive bacteria.
Bubbling Air Stone:
Add a couple of aquarium air stones into your
pond to add extra aeration for your fish. This is especially beneficial
during the winter months when your pond is at risk of freezing over. The
bubblers will keep a hole in the ice so that your koi do not suffer from
the accumulation of lethal gases in the water. Put the air stones in
before your pond surface freezes. Do not crack the ice because it will
only freeze thicker, inflicting further potential risk to your livestock.
We
recommend continuing use of the air stones year-round in order to provide
supplemental aeration to your fish during the hot, oxygen-depleting summer
months.
